Homework Assistance

<

Hope Warriors Children’s Charity believes in equipping and assisting learners with their home work every day in order to enhance their academic performance. The benefits to the afterschool and homework assistance program:

  • Improve social skills.
  •

The program promotes cooperation, support and respect. This helps the learners feel more secure about starting a conversation, or raising their hand.

  •  Provide academic support.
  •

The homework program offers structured homework help. Homework can often cause friction between learners with learning and attention issues and their parents. So getting it done during the program can make everyone’s evening more pleasant and relaxing. We ensure that the learners learn to do their own homework and solve problems, contributing towards their academic improvement

  • Make learning more fun.
  •

The homework program offers assistance in all the classes offered in the school curriculum. In these sessions, there are tests and students work together in groups. For learners with learning and attention issues, these classes can be stress-free, fun and meaningful. We also incorporate learning into structured games which allow the learners to learn while learning at the same time.

  • Provide safety and supervision.
  •

Research shows that the hours between 3 and 6pm are when learners are most likely to commit crimes, drink or use drugs, succumb to peer pressure or become the victims of crime. Keeping learners busy can prevent them from engaging in risky behavior or wondering the streets. Studies also show that being in an afterschool/homework program can result in better grades and fewer behavioral problems.

Both the Homework program and the Literacy and Numeracy Program are put in place in order to assist learners from Grade 1-9 with Language and Mathematics. In our view the two programs go hand in hand. In order to enable these programs to succeed, Hope Warriors Children’s Charity aims to build and improve on our relationship with the local schools.

Hope Warrior Children’s Charity works hard to register orphaned and or vulnerable children on our programs and to ensure a high attendance rate. We also do our best to secure proper tutors and we are thankful to all those tutors who volunteer their services. At the end of Grade 9 we hope to have assisted the children attending these programs, to read and write properly in the English Language (which is a requirement for further education and also just to obtain employment in South Africa), to both comprehend and speak proper English even to the extent of being able to enter debates and participating in Spelling Bees.

With the Numeracy program, our hope is to have pupils by the end of Grade 9 be able to count, do additions and subtractions, problem solving and understand mathematics concepts. Hope Warriors Children’s Charity can only accomplish these goals with the assistance of sponsors and donors.
